CITY OF CULTURE BID BECOMES OFFICIAL
February 27, 2017
Stoke-on-Trent's bid to become UK City of Culture 2021 took another exciting leap forward on Monday, 27 February - and it was celebrated at Hanley's iconic Regent Theatre. The event was held to mark the official submission of interest being sent by the team to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. And as you can see from the picture, there was lots of excitement about marking this milestone. Partners and supporters took the opportunity to spread the word about the city's push towards claiming this cultural crown - and what a wonderful opportunity it is for the area. Among those to voice their support today was Staffordshire University's Professor Ieuan Ellis, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Partnerships and Region. He said: “Staffordshire University is fully backing Stoke-on-Trent’s bid to become UK City of Culture 2021, which offers unprecedented opportunities for our city and its communities. As the ‘connected university’ with a strong regional focus, our academic community of students, staff and alumni are very excited by this fabulous opportunity in applying their talents to shape the future cultural vision for our city. A successful bid is a huge injection of confidence in the region and we aim to learn from other successful bids, to build on the area’s great strengths and be at the forefront of a new cultural and digital revolution.”
Potclays are proud to be an active member of the Cultural Forum and to be firmly #backingthebid!
