CONGRATULATIONS to Zoe Whiteside, the winner of the Potclays Best Ceramicist Award at the Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair in Manchester 11-13 October.

Zoe's expressive, characterful animal sculptures caught our eye and as a newcomer to the show, we hope this award offers the recognition she deserves!

Zoe Whiteside is a British Ceramic Artist living & working in Shropshire, England. She studied at the Royal College of Art & Staffordshire, the historical heart of the UK potteries. She has worked from studios in London, Coventry, Brighton and Gothenburg (Sweden). Examples of her work have been exhibited at the Victoria & Albert Museum (London), Midici Galleries (London), Roger Billcliffe Gallery (Glasgow), Oxford Gallery, Leeds City Art Gallery, Museum of Mankind (London) and the Hannah Peschar Gallery (Surrey).

The Work is hand built using slabs of clay. No moulding process is involved which makes every piece unique. It is then fired and painted with slips, oxides and glaze. It takes at least 2-3 firings to achieve the subtleties in surface texture and colour. Ideas are developed through drawing and sketch models researched at zoos and museums.
