Why are my casts brittle, difficult to fettle and difficult to handle?

If your cast is very dense but low in strength due to the cast forming too quickly, this is brought about by either an over addition of deflocculent or by the ratio of sodium silicate to sodium carbonate being incorrect. In this case the sodium silicate is in excess. Add more clay and water, and make minor adjustment to the sodium carbonate level if required.
