Grogs
Browse fine and coarse grogs to adjust clay texture, strength and shape stability. Our range includes white-firing additions for potters developing clay bodies for handbuilding, sculpture and other studio work.
Grog Grades for Texture and Stability
Grog is a fired ceramic material that has been ground and graded into different particle sizes for adding to clay bodies. Grog additions can improve shape stability during drying and firing, making them useful for broad slabs, handbuilt pots and sculptural pieces. They also let you introduce grain into a clay body, adding character and texture to the finished surface.
Our selection spans fine powders through to coarser particles. Finer grades can suit work where you want a less noticeable texture, while larger grains lend themselves to rougher finishes. White-firing options offer a useful choice for pale clay bodies where retaining a light colour matters.
Both particle size and the amount added influence how a mixture handles. This gives potters scope to develop a blend around a particular form or finish, whether that means a subtle surface texture or a pronounced grain.
Why Choose Potclays?
We supply grogs alongside clays and raw materials for potters preparing their own bodies. Our team can help explain the available grades and their suitability for different applications.
