Create Fine Lines, Lettering and Detailed Designs

Designer Liner is clay-based and heavily pigmented. Use this versatile product to create fine detail with lines, dots and letters.

The metal writer tip allows for precise control when drawing ultra-fine or bold lines, typography and intricate illustrations. Alternatively, apply with a brush to create watercolour or ink-wash effects.

Designer Liner is best used under non-moving transparent or semi-transparent glazes and fires to a matt finish when no glaze is applied over the top. It can be applied to clay or greenware, bisque, glass, on top of non-moving glaze, or under a sheer or semi-transparent glaze.

Applying Mayco Designer Liner

Bottle Preparation: Before first use, punch a hole in the tip of the plastic screw cap using the writer tip provided. Do not cut the plastic tip or make the opening larger than the thickness of the metal writer tip. The metal writer tip is threaded and will fit snugly onto the screw cap.

Applying Colour: Shake the bottle to force colour down into the tip. To initiate product flow, squeeze a little through the writer tip onto a paper towel. Use steady, even pressure for detailing, or apply with a liner brush for fine outlining and brushstrokes.

Firing and Finishing Your Design

Designer Liner is formulated to mature at cone 06/05, with many colours retaining their performance at higher temperatures. Check the individual product guidance for your chosen colour and firing temperature, and test on your clay body and in your kiln before use.

Designer Liner is food safe and dinnerware safe when covered with a suitable clear glaze and used according to Mayco’s directions.

Storing and Caring for the Writer Tip

If using Designer Liner frequently, you can store the bottle with the metal tip attached. Place the supplied straight pin into the metal writer tip to help prevent clogging. Alternatively, remove the metal writer tip and reattach the white plastic tip to the screw cap, soaking the metal writer tip in warm water to remove any remaining product.

Minimise air exposure and always store at room temperature.
