Sparkling Finishes for Decorative Pottery

BOTZ Glimmer glazes combine colour with light-catching particles, offering a distinctive finish for decorative vessels and ceramic ornaments. These brush-on coatings act as sinter engobes, forming a bonded surface during firing.

The firing temperature influences their appearance. Sparkle can be especially pronounced around 900°C, while most colours develop greater intensity near 1040°C. A compatible transparent glaze over the decoration can further enrich the colour.

Applying and Firing Glimmer Glazes

Stir thoroughly before brushing onto biscuit ware. For best results, BOTZ recommends applying Glimmer to ware that has been biscuit fired above 1000°C, helping to reduce the risk of bubbling. Let the first coat dry before adding a second, and a third if needed for coverage.

Once completely dry, gently wipe the surface with a slightly damp cloth. Use small circular movements with light pressure to expose the glimmer particles, then fire between 900°C and 1060°C.

Depending on the object’s weight, the manufacturer advises that pieces may be coated all over and fired without stilts. This guidance applies to the Glimmer coating itself; an added transparent glaze may require a different approach.

BOTZ Glimmer is available ready to use in 200ml and 800ml jars.

The manufacturer states that it does not add animal-derived ingredients and, based on its knowledge of the materials used, believes its products to be vegan and cruelty-free.
