Kiln Stilts for Supporting Ceramics

Kiln stilts provide the clearance needed for glazes to fire without sticking to the shelf, while securely supporting your pottery with minimal contact. They help reduce the risk of damage to both your pieces and your kiln tools. All measurements for our stilts are quoted point-to-point for accuracy.

Ceramic Stilt Guidance

Star Stilts for ceramics feature a star-shaped base that allows for improved balance and stability. These products are perfect for supporting your ceramic pieces in earthenware firing, up to approximately Cone 03 or 1,100°C.

All-Clay Stilts feature three arms that terminate in an upward and downward point to provide a minimum contact area. Ideal for earthenware or stoneware firing (up to Cone 10 or 1,300°C), these stilts are often made from clay themselves. It is considered better to "dry foot" pieces fired to stoneware temperatures, as stilts may indent the base of the piece as the clay vitrifies.

Saddles/Pins are triangular section bars, perfect for heavier pieces. They provide reliable support and ensure an even firing, and are useful in both bisque and glost firings.

It’s important to choose the correct stilt size to match the weight and size of your pottery. Ceramic kiln stilts should support your project without tipping. It is also essential to pay close attention to positioning to ensure minimal contact and balance.
