What are Mayco Foundations® Matte Glazes?
Foundations® Matte glazes are part of the Foundations® family, which is known for its wide range of colours, easy application, and consistent results. These matte glazes give your artwork a soft, subtle finish that makes it look more polished without being too flashy. And guess what? You can mix and match them with other Mayco Foundations® products to create all sorts of creative designs, from layering and patterning to controlling the opacity.
These glazes are formulated to mature at Cone 06 but maintain colour integrity when fired to higher temperatures, with individual performance details noted on each product label. At Cone 6, some increase in glossiness may occur, so testing on your preferred clay body and kiln setup is recommended.
How to Apply Mayco Foundations® Matte Glazes
For the most consistent results, apply Foundations® Matte glazes to Cone 04 bisque. Use a soft fan brush to apply two to three even coats, brushing in a single direction to minimise brush marks. Allow each coat to dry before applying the next to ensure a smooth, uniform surface. These glazes dry quickly and are forgiving to use, making them ideal for beginners and busy studio environments.
These glazes are certified AP Non-Toxic and Food Safe when used as directed. While their soft matte finish is particularly suited to decorative ware, they can be used on functional items provided the surface is appropriate for its intended use.
