What are Mayco Foundations® Opaque Glazes?
Foundations® Opaque glazes are a game-changer for potters. These glazes give you even, rich colours without any fuss. They come in a wide range of colours, from soft neutrals like Antique White, Ivory Specks, and Mushroom, to vibrant brights like Bright Jade, Pumpkin Orange, Royal Blue, Strawberry, and Bubblegum. With so many options, you can build a full colour palette within a single glaze series. It’s perfect for functional ware, decorative projects, studio teaching, and layering techniques.
These glazes produce a smooth, high-gloss finish at Cone 06 and can often be fired to Cone 6. However, individual colours shift slightly depending on the clay body and kiln atmosphere.
How to Apply Mayco Foundations® Opaque Glazes
Use a soft brush, such as a fan brush or soft glaze brush, to apply two to three even coats of Foundation® Opaque glazes. Allow each coat to dry before applying the next. This makes layering efficient and ideal for busy studio schedules or same-day firing. Leather-hard clay can also be used with these glazes.
Like the rest of the Foundations® family, these glazes are certified AP Non-Toxic and are Food Safe when correctly applied and fired, making them suitable for everyday functional ware.
