"I wanted to find a clay that would give me beautiful body colour and texture in reduction as much of my work retains unglazed surfaces. As I throw all of my work on a McMeekin momentum wheel I needed to use a clay that was softer then most throwing bodies yet had the strength to stand up and take full bodied forms. I initially developed a recipe from a blend of Potclays' commercial bodies - Staffordshire Stoneware for plasticity, Craft Crank for iron content and texture (in the grog content) and Reduction St Thomas for its throwing qualities and sand. This clay is a reworked recipe inspired by that initial blend to offer all of those qualities." Tom Knowles Jackson

Please note our clay is sold by approximate weight. Your total order weight for a specific clay body will be despatched in the most economic combination of packs possible. If you require individual packs of a specific size, please state this in the Special Instructions during checkout.
To comply with RHA regulations concerning tail-lift deliveries (where there is no fork-lift truck available at the delivery point) the maximum net weight of clay we are now permitted to pack on standard pallet is 950kg (76 x 12.5kg bags of clay). To achieve the best price for your clay, please add the full 1000kg to your cart when checking out and we will make the necessary weight adjustment/refund when we receive the order.
We have added cone numbers to our firing ranges for guidance purposes. Please refer to the 60c/hr column for large regular or self-supporting cones on the Orton Cones Conversion Chart which can be downloaded here.
* You can find typical shrinkage data in the CLAY ANALYSES chart which is available for download from this link: https://www.potclays.co.uk/Technical-Information. These figures are taken from tests performed under laboratory conditions and are intended for guidance only. For this reason, it is always recommended to also run shrinkage tests in your own application.
Technical data is approximate and provided for guidance only. Our Clay Analyses sheet can be downloaded here.
