About

3435 Gum Arabic

  • Used as a medium for underglaze colours, in glazes as a binder, and in clays as a plasticiser.
  • Make a solution with approx. 250ml very hot water for every 100gm gum arabic powder, mixed thoroughly and vigorously. Allow to cool.
  • Gum Arabic is an organic material and as such will decompose in the glaze and will eventually begin to produce an odour. Only mix small batches at a time.
  • Adding to powder glaze: Replace around a third of the water with gum arabic solution when mixing up the glaze.
  • Adding to plastic clay: Mix with hot water to make a gel. Wedge/knead the gel into the clay gradually.
