Which of your glazes are vegan-friendly?

This is a question we are asked increasingly often. We have approached our glaze suppliers and detailed their responses below. As far as Potclays powdered glazes are concerned, the following glazes contain bone ash and therefore are not vegan-friendly:

  • 2376 Vellum Off-White
  • 2378 Vellum Blue
  • 2392 Orange-Red
  • 2394-1M Reactive Slip
  • 2394-2 Tenmoku Chun
  • 2396-01 Barium Blue

Mayco:

“SW129, SW130, and SW133 are the only glazes with bone ash.”

Amaco:

“Amaco only use synthetic bone ash.  All of our clay and glaze is vegan.”

BOTZ:

“As far as we know there are no animals involved in the production of the material we use for producing our glazes.  We buy raw materials, basic glazes and stains and mix them together with a binder in a liquid form. We also do not add here in our production ingredients which have been derived from animals. We therefore believe all our products to be vegan and cruelty free.”

Spectrum:

“All our glazes are Vegan friendly”

Laguna:

“Only 2 glazes are made with bone ash LG15 and WC556 which are both cone 10 glazes”

Clayscapes:

“All of our current line of glazes are vegan”
