Mayco Foundations® Sheers

Foundations® Sheers are available in a broad assortment of colours, opacities and textures. They are designed to serve as basic foundational glazes for any ceramic studio, whether in a school, home or retail environment. They are easy to apply, budget-friendly, and certified AP non-toxic and food safe.

The range offers colour versatility for potters of all skill levels, allowing them to add a tint to project surfaces without obscuring any detail. Shades include Sheer Blue, Sea Glass, Pastel Jade and Sooty Grey, as well as many more, to enrich the ceramic surface.

Ideal for decorative work or projects where a softer opacity is required, the reliable brushing quality of these glazes, especially when applying two to three coats in the same direction, offers even coverage with minimal brush marks.

Sheer glazes offer a balance between colour and transparency, making them ideal for potters looking to highlight surface texture, carved detailing, stamping, or underglaze decoration. Soft, translucent glazes add a tint without overwhelming the design, giving control over depth and visual richness.

Many Mayco Foundations® Sheers can be fired higher than Cone 06 for subtle shifts in tone, but usually produce their best, most dependable results at that firing point.
We recommend testing the glazes on your clay body and in your kiln for optimum performance.
