Mayco Elements Glazes Cone 06/05
Browse our Mayco Elements™ and Elements™ Chunkies brush-on glazes below for nature-inspired colours and varied surface effects at low-fire temperatures. Choose from earthy finishes that respond to texture, application and firing, with options for layering and combining with other compatible Mayco glazes.
Nature-Inspired Colour and Varied Glaze Effects
Mayco Elements™ and Elements™ Chunkies offer earthy, organic colours with varied effects influenced by texture, application and firing. Elements™ can develop a two-tone finish, with a secondary ‘float’ colour appearing around recessed detail, while Elements™ Chunkies contain crystals that melt during firing to introduce additional colour and variation.
Aztec Jade, Evergreen Fir, Green Sapphire and Lustre Green are also included within the Elements™ family due to their similar performance characteristics, giving you further colour options when choosing a finish.
Use Alone, Layer or Combine with Other Mayco Glazes
Use Elements™ and Elements™ Chunkies individually for an all-over finish, incorporate them into decorative designs or layer compatible colours to explore different glaze effects.
They can also be combined with other Mayco ranges, including Stroke & Coat®, Foundations®, Jungle Gems™ and compatible Stoneware glazes, giving you plenty of scope to develop different colour and surface combinations.
Designer Liner can be used over non-moving Elements™ glazes for defined lines, lettering or decorative detail.
For additional glaze movement, Mayco Pottery Cascades™ can be applied under, over or between Elements™ and Elements™ Chunkies. Pottery Cascades act as a flux, encouraging the colours to move and interact during firing. As combinations can behave differently depending on application and firing, test your chosen glazes together before using them on a finished piece.
Applying Mayco Elements Glazes
Shake well before use and dispense the glaze onto a clean palette before applying with a soft brush, sponge, stamp or other suitable decorating tool. Avoid repeatedly dipping a brush directly into the jar when working with other glazes, as this may contaminate the contents.
Mayco recommends three to four coats. For larger areas, use a broad, soft fan brush and apply coats evenly in the same direction. Allow the wet appearance of each coat to disappear before applying the next, and make sure the glaze is thoroughly dry before firing.
Application can have a noticeable effect on the finished surface. The number and evenness of coats, the amount of detail on the piece and the firing conditions can all influence the final appearance.
Firing Elements at Cone 06/05 and Higher Temperatures
Elements™ glazes are formulated for cone 06/05 firing. Many colours can also produce interesting results at higher temperatures, including cone 6, but colour, surface characteristics and glaze movement may change.
Check the individual product guidance for the higher-temperature performance of your chosen colour. Some Elements™ become more fluid as the firing temperature increases, so take particular care when applying to the lower part of vertical pieces to reduce the risk of glaze running onto the kiln shelf.
We recommend testing on your chosen clay body and with your usual firing schedule before committing to a finished piece.
Dinnerware and Food Safety
Dinnerware suitability varies across the Mayco Elements™ range. Check the individual product’s current Mayco safety guidance before using an Elements™ glaze on food-contact surfaces.
