AMACO Semi-Moist Underglaze Sets
AMACO Semi-Moist Underglazes are intense opaque colours which are great for applying watercolour effects and for painting fine detail. Packaged in easy-to-use pans, users simply need to use water and then brush to apply. Fired from Cone 05 to Cone 6; however, some colours can be fired up to Cone 10. Perfect for use under glaze, these colours can be applied to greenware or bisque. Browse the semi-most underglaze range below.
Why are Semi-Moist Underglazes Good?
Offering the intensity of traditional underglazes with the flexibility and control of watercolour effects, these sets are great for adding delicate shading, bold pattern work and expressive brushstrokes. Semi-moist underglazes combine the convenience of pan-based watercolours with the permanence of ceramic colour. Simply add water and brush to activate the pigment before applying it to your clay surface. Colours are concentrated, offering excellent coverage with minimal product.
They are great for producing transparent washes, layered tones and intricate details. The colour also remains workable until the pottery is fired, meaning you have the freedom to blend, layer and refine your design.
Are Amaco Products Vegan?
Yes, all of our Amaco clay and glazes are vegan as they only use synthetic bone ash.
AMACO Semi-Moist Underglaze Firing Range
Each underglaze set offers a carefully curated palette for your creative freedom. Once they are fired, colours remain durable and permanent beneath a transparent glaze.
Pink, maroon, peach, rose and yellow all retain their colour beautifully up to Cone 6, whereas all other colours, such as electric blue, amethyst, and hunter green, can be safely fired to Cone 10 without a significant tone shift. For the most vibrant results, fire at Cone 05 to Cone 6.
How to Use Semi-Moist Underglazes from AMACO
These glazes are especially suited for watercolour effects and are easy to use. Because the colours are thin yet concentrated, you can build tone gradually without overloading the project's surface.
How to use:
- Prepare the surface - leather-hard greenware or bisque will help you achieve the best results.
- Activate the colour - dip your brush into water and work it gently into the pan until pigment releases.
- Apply - opt for bold opaque strokes, delicate washes or layered effects.
- Fire - fire to the recommended cone range for your chosen colour.
- Glaze - cover with a transparent glaze for a glossy and durable finish.
