A bit more about this clay…

Gagliano Stoneware was developed by Roberto Gagliano, founder of Pottery Gagliano in Brighton, to meet a specific need in his own ceramic practice: a clay body capable of supporting large forms while maintaining their shape and structural integrity during throwing. With a slightly grogged texture, this stoneware clay offers the body and stability needed to work on a larger scale, helping potters build ambitious forms with confidence. At the same time, it is versatile enough for throwing smaller forms, making it suitable for a wide range of ceramic projects. Developed through Roberto's years of hands-on experience, it reflects his approach to ceramics, combining technical performance with a sensitivity to shape, proportion and form.

With a recommended firing range of 1200-1300C, Gagliano Stoneware is the result of practical experience and a passion for pushing the possibilities of clay.

Created by a potter, for potters, who want to think big and build with confidence.

Please note our clay is sold by approximate weight. Your total order weight for a specific clay body will be despatched in the most economic combination of packs possible. If you require individual packs of a specific size, please state this in the Special Instructions during checkout.

To comply with RHA regulations concerning tail-lift deliveries (where there is no fork-lift truck available at the delivery point) the maximum net weight of clay we are now permitted to pack on standard pallet is 950kg (76 x 12.5kg bags of clay). To achieve the best price for your clay, please add the full 1000kg to your cart when checking out and we will make the necessary weight adjustment/refund when we receive the order.

We have added cone numbers to our firing ranges for guidance purposes. Please refer to the 60c/hr column for large regular or self-supporting cones on the Orton Cones Conversion Chart which can be downloaded here.

* You can find typical shrinkage data in the CLAY ANALYSES chart which is available for download from this link: https://www.potclays.co.uk/Technical-Information. These figures are taken from tests performed under laboratory conditions and are intended for guidance only. For this reason, it is always recommended to also run shrinkage tests in your own application.

Technical data is approximate and provided for guidance only. Our Clay Analyses sheet can be downloaded here.
