"I have been using Potclays' 155-4000 JB porcelain clay since it came on to the market in 2006 and before that its predecessor HF body. All my work is wheel made with an emphasis on turning, only this porcelain clay suits me because it dries evenly inside and out to the leather hard stage giving structural strength and flexibility allowing me to create my very particular surface textures. I fire it to 1280C after a biscuit of 980C in an electric kiln without any slumping or bloating even after much reclaiming and its very white smooth surface shows the finest details. Sometimes it is hard to believe I am using the very difficult medium of porcelain, this clay throws and turns very easily, its behaviour more like a regular stoneware body. If you have never used porcelain before try this one first!" Geoffrey Swindell (2014)

Please note our clay is sold by approximate weight. Your total order weight for a specific clay body will be despatched in the most economic combination of packs possible. If you require individual packs of a specific size, please state this in the Special Instructions during checkout.
To comply with RHA regulations concerning tail-lift deliveries (where there is no fork-lift truck available at the delivery point) the maximum net weight of clay we are now permitted to pack on standard pallet is 950kg (76 x 12.5kg bags of clay). To achieve the best price for your clay, please add the full 1000kg to your cart when checking out and we will make the necessary weight adjustment/refund when we receive the order.
*We have added cone numbers to our firing ranges for guidance purposes. Please refer to the 60c/hr column for large regular or self-supporting cones on the Orton Cones Conversion Chart which can be downloaded here.
* You can find typical shrinkage data in the CLAY ANALYSES chart which is available for download from this link: https://www.potclays.co.uk/Technical-Information. These figures are taken from tests performed under laboratory conditions and are intended for guidance only. For this reason, it is always recommended to also run shrinkage tests in your own application.
Technical data provided is approximate and for guidance only. Our Clay Analyses sheet can be downloaded here.
