Nickel Oxide NiO

Will produce brownish greens, brown and grey glazes but more commonly to modify or grey the colours obtained from other colouring oxides by combination.

Raw colour of powder: Black/Brown

Colour responses after firing:

• Painted onto clay: Not normally used alone
• Painted onto biscuit:  Often mixed with other oxides to produce a 'greying'effect on basic colour.

Please note that these are the typical results,but combinations of oxides will produce different results depending upon the relative percentages of each used and the firing conditions in the kiln.  Also the underlying body colour will influence the resulting colour.
