About
Rokk Grey Grogged Stoneware 164-ROKK | Recommended firing range 1200-1300C (Cone 6-11)*
Please note: The latest batch of Rokk due for delivery in December 2025 has some slight black mould growth on the surface. Clay is made from naturally occurring materials and so mould growth is common. It does not affect its performance in any way. It can be skimmed off, or it will burn away in the firing.
Developed for sculptural applications and for outdoors pieces, the high grog content (40% fine grog 0-0.5mm) providing a beautiful textured surface and excellent handling qualities. Depending on the firing temperature this body takes on a range of grey hues. To retain a 'cool grey', fire at 1200C or below. The grey hue can become 'brownish' above this temperature and certain glazes will emphasise this. Supplied in a 12.5kg bag.
Indicative texture 7-8 (Smooth 1-Coarse 10).
SIO2 technical data:
- Water content: 17%
- Plasticity (IP Atterberg): 16
- Carbonate content (CaCO3): 0%
- Drying shrinkage: 5.5%
- Firing shrinkage (1300ºC): 3.9%
- Porosity (water absorption at 1300ºC): 2.6%
- Dry bending strength: 2.5 N/mm2
- Fired bending strength (1300ºC): 37.8 N/mm2
- Thermal coefficient (25-500ºC): 59.9x10^-7ºC^-1"
(*) Firing range recommended for the clay to develop its best performance, both in terms of technical and safety characteristics, under conventional firing conditions. The colour samples may show temperatures outside the recommended range to provide a broader view, but these are pieces fired under controlled conditions.
To comply with RHA regulations concerning tail-lift deliveries (where there is no fork-lift truck available at the delivery point) the maximum net weight of clay we are now permitted to pack on standard pallet is 950kg (76 x 12.5kg bags of clay). To achieve the best price for your clay, please add the full 1000kg to your cart when checking out and we will make the necessary weight adjustment/refund when we receive the order.
We have added cone numbers to our firing ranges for guidance purposes. Please refer to the 60c/hr column for large regular or self-supporting cones on the Orton Cones Conversion Chart which can be downloaded here.
