What should I do if my Shimpo wheelhead is seized on?

Occasionally, the head will be difficult to remove where it is seized due to corrosion.

Generally we do this by getting the wheel upside down and supported on either side of the head with blocks.

We then drip releasing oil into the hole left by the fixing screw and around the shaft so that it makes its way down and hopefully frees off the head.

This can take a few days with multiple applications of releasing oil but we have had good success in the past.

You should be very careful when pulling the head off as uneven force can bend the softer alloy wheelhead.

If this doesn’t work then you can apply heat to the head in the hope that it frees off, but that carries more risk of damage and should be a last resort.
