About

Cone 6: Purple Aster is a glossy, semi-opaque lavender glaze that breaks over texture and develops a pale violet frost; deep blue crystals melt into cascading blossoms of indigo.

Cone 10: Color darkens slightly. No change to crystals.

TIP: Purple Aster uses SW165 Lavender Mist as the base glaze. The base glaze is stable at 3 coats, even with heavy application. Crystals can create movement. Avoid having a heavy concentration of crystals near the bottom of your piece. Can be used in oxidation or reduction firings. Results may vary. The choice of clay body, thickness of application, firing process, and temperature will greatly affect the fired results. Always test your application on your clay body in your kiln environment.

POURING WITH STONEWARE CRYSTAL DRY GLAZES
For fast glazing and flowing effects, we recommend using Mayco’s Stoneware Crystals Dry mix glazes (SDs). Due to the crystals settling to the bottom, we recommend mixing thoroughly and pouring the mixed glazes onto your piece with a pour container or pitcher. Over application in the same area may cause crystals to fall off.

General Use

Use Mayco Stoneware Glazes on any midrange clay body. These glazes are intended for use at cone range 4-6 but are also stable and pleasing at cone 10. Can be used in oxidation, reduction or other alternative atmospheric firing conditions. Always test prior to use.

Mayco's Stoneware Dry Mix glazes contain the same ingredients as our premixed formulas (leaving out viscosity thickeners and preservatives) and are ideally suited for spraying and dipping application. For best results: Gently tumble unopened bag to remix materials. Mix 1 pound of dry material to 1 pint (16 oz.) of water. Thin or thicken as needed. Our dry blends feature uniform and very fine particle sizing; sieving should not ne necessary. For best glazing results: Dipping - stir well right before dipping piece. Immerse the piece for 2-3 seconds; let dry for 3-5 minutes before applying additional coats (optional). Please read and observe the safety precautions on the back panel.
