Technical notes regarding frits
Most frits, with the exception of lead based ones, can be used in stoneware glazes because the typical % addition would be less than 70%, quite often around 10-20%. Frits when manufactured are smelted at temperatures above 1200C so stoneware firing presents no problem. Our HT Borax frit 2265 is designed for use in primarily stoneware glaze as a major constituent where the higher additions are possible. The frit would typically by part of a recipe also containing feldspars etc. Stoneware glazes would not normally be based entirely on frits. The quoted firing ranges for frits are estimates of the usable range over which the frit could be used as the only component of a glaze, which almost never happens.
