A Range of Colours in the Floating Glaze Range

This expressive collection of glazes features a range of colours that “float” to reveal multiple tones within a single glaze. The colours include vibrant hues across serene blues, greens, and neutrals, such as Floating Turquoise, Cactus, Scandinavian Blue, and Tiger Eye, which create rich visual movement. Softer options like Pearl White, Fuzzy Peach, and Shallot offer subtle gradients and warm accents. When applied over textured ceramics, these floating glazes break beautifully, revealing high points and recesses through shadow, depth, and tonal variation.

Layering with complementary underglazes can further enhance the floating effect. Adjusting glaze thickness, applying three coats, or experimenting with variations in coat weight can shift the final appearance, making each ceramic piece unique. These glazes pair well with shino-like surfaces and other stoneware glazes, adding complexity and character.

Why Spectrum Floating Glazes?

Spectrum Floating Glazes are designed for potters seeking high-reactive surfaces without the unpredictability of traditional high-fire shino glazes. They offer a controlled yet expressive break and flow, allowing colours to shift from light to dark across textured ware. These glazes are “mobile”, so taking precautions with kiln shelves is essential.

Formulated to be non-toxic and ready to apply straight from the jar, Spectrum Floating Glazes are easy to brush onto bisqueware. The range delivers exquisite floating colour effects across pottery forms, tiles, and sculptural ceramics, producing results that look hand-layered and atmospheric with minimal effort.
