What is Fireclay?
Fireclay is a naturally occurring clay that can withstand high temperatures, making it ideal for creating durable stoneware bodies. Rich in silica and alumina, this clay resists thermal shock and shrinkage, contributing to strong yet flexible forms that can be thrown, stretched, and slab-built without tearing.
Often blended with other materials like ball clays or grog to create a tailored texture, colour or workability, the clay is considered to be relatively versatile. This clay is highly sought after by potters looking to build bodies.
Reliable and Versatile Raw Clay
The Fireclay 320 (Powder) is a versatile raw clay that supports a wide selection of applications. Supplied as a powder, this all-rounder clay delivers excellent strength and stability in stoneware blends, withstanding high kiln firing temperatures.
Naturally raw, the clay offers potters the experience of adapting to the natural characteristics of the clay. Occasionally, oversized particles will be present in the clay, which adds earthy charm to your work. When the clay is blended, it can help contribute to plasticity, is compatible with most glazes and is suitable for once-firing, reducing production times.
The clay can add strength, add texture and support working at scale.
