Potclays are delighted to announce an exciting new partnership with Penguin Pottery, Vermont, USA — bringing a vibrant and innovative range of their glazes to the UK for the very first time.

Founded in 2020 by a team of expert potters, Penguin Pottery was created with a clear mission: to make ceramic arts more accessible, more sustainable, and more responsible. Their commitment extends beyond beautiful finishes — they prioritise eco-friendly packaging, mindful manufacturing, and active support for the ceramics community, including donating a portion of sales to underfunded schools through initiatives such as 1% for Schools.

Among the highlights of this new collection is the extraordinary Glow in the Dark Series of ^06 glazes. These unique low-fire glazes can be applied to greenware, bisque, or even previously glazed and high-fired pieces, before being refired quickly to cone 06. You can add luminous accents to finished work, opening up exciting decorative possibilities. Once fired, the glaze absorbs energy from UV or natural light and gradually releases it in darkness, creating a striking luminescent effect that transforms your work at night or in low light. For a glossy finish, simply apply a clear glaze over the top and fire together to cone 06.

Potclays are also introducing a selection of Penguin’s Speciality ^5–6 glazes — a range of distinctive mid- to high-fire glazes known for their captivating surface effects. These glazes truly shine when layered, interacting beautifully to produce depth, movement, and rich variation across the surface.

In addition, Potclays now stock Penguin’s cleverly designed refillable wax resist pens, ideal for precision decoration and controlled glaze application. Supplied with both round and chisel tips, they allow for everything from fine linear detail to broader expressive marks. A 473ml wax refill is also available, making them a practical and sustainable studio essential.
